Hunter valley marriage celebrant

I’m Monty King, the 2025 ABIA NSW Celebrant of the Year and a Newcastle-based marriage celebrant who’s been performing ceremonies across the Hunter Valley since 2015. 800+ weddings and 200+ five-star reviews later, I know the vineyards, the private-property paddocks, the wet-weather backup plans, and every quirk a local celebrant should. If you’re planning to get married in the Hunter, I’d love to hear from you.

hunter valley venues i’ve worked at

Over the last decade I’ve hitched legends at (and driven back roads to) a whole bunch of the Hunter’s wedding venues. Here’s a snapshot. Not a favourites list, not a shortlist, and definitely not the whole list.

Adams Peak Country Estate · Bimbadgen Palmers Lane · Circa 1876 · Dark Horse Vineyard · Enzo Weddings · Goosewing Cottage · Greystone Estate · Krinklewood · Moravia Park · Peppers Creek Chapel · Peterson House · Settler’s Rest · Squire’s Vineyard · The White Barn · The Woodhouse at Wollombi · Tocal Homestead · Wallalong House

If your venue’s not on this list, it doesn’t mean I don’t know it. Odds are I’ve been nearby, or I’m keen to find it. Get in touch and I’ll tell you honestly whether I know the place, and if I don’t, I’ll be there half an hour early to have a look around.

What my ceremonies feel like

I write every ceremony based on how you actually met, what you’re actually like, and what you actually want said in front of your favourite people. My ceremonies land somewhere between properly moving and genuinely funny. Never one without the other, never stiff, never a script you could’ve bought off the internet.

I’ve done this 800+ times now. That means I know when a moment needs to breathe, when it needs a punchline, when to speed up because Nan’s about to get cold, and when to slow down because it’s the moment you’ll want to remember. It also means I’ve seen most wedding-day curveballs, and have a plan for each of them.

I MC too. Same bloke, whole day. One less vendor to brief, one less handover to worry about, and a tighter flow from “I do” to the dance floor. If you’d rather someone else on the mic for the reception, no worries at all. The MC add-on is totally optional, and if you’re not sure now, it can be added later.

what hunter valley couples have said

“Monty was so good, we booked him twice! We finally got to have our big day and there was no way we were doing it without Monty. He officiated our Hunter Valley ceremony and was MC for our reception, and we simply cannot stop raving about him. He received so many compliments, many of our friends thinking he was a family friend because of his familiarity and how well he got to know us. Forever grateful for you Monty, thank you for marrying us twice!”

Karina & Scott, Enzo Weddings

“If you’re looking for a dynamic down-to-earth celebrant with a great sense of humour, LOOK NO FURTHER. Monty added a vibe to our country wedding at Tocal Homestead which was friendly, warm and entertaining. If you’re located within bulls roar of the Hunter Valley you would be doing yourself an injustice if you don’t talk to Monty in the lead up to your special day.”

Hugh & Michelle, Tocal Homestead

"We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better celebrant and MC! From our very first meeting, you just got us. You absolutely nailed our vibe and made the whole day feel so relaxed, fun and personal.

The ceremony was the perfect mix of heartfelt and hilarious, and as MC you kept the reception flowing effortlessly while keeping everyone entertained. A week later, our guests are still talking about how amazing you were!

Thank you for making our wedding so memorable and for helping create a day that felt so us. We couldn’t recommend you highly enough to any couple looking for someone who will make their day truly special."

Emma & Aaron, Adams Peak Country Estate

common questions

How much does a Hunter Valley marriage celebrant cost?

Fees vary from celebrant to celebrant. My full ceremonies start from $2,200. Ceremony + MC bundles start from $3,300. If you just want the legal side sorted, that starts from $660. Every quote includes Hunter Valley travel, no surprise fees for venues out at Wollombi or Broke. If your enquiry sits outside of “from” pricing, I’ll always tell you upfront before you book.

How far in advance should we book?

Peak season (September to May), as far ahead as you can, ideally 12-18 months. Winter dates and weekdays are often available with a little less notice. If you’ve got a specific date in mind, get in touch and I’ll tell you whether it’s still on the cards.

Do you MC as well as officiate?

Yes. Having the same person run the ceremony and MC the reception means one less vendor to brief, one less handover, and a smoother flow across the day. The MC add-on is optional and can be added at any time in the lead up to your big day.

How far do you travel across the Hunter?

All of it. Pokolbin, Cessnock, Broke, Wollombi, Lovedale, Wallalong, Paterson, all included in the standard fee, no extras. If you’re outside the Hunter (Central Coast, Sydney, further afield), get in touch and we’ll work it out. Road trips are one of my favourite parts of the job.

Are you a Commonwealth-registered marriage celebrant?

Yes, Commonwealth-registered since 2015. If you want to verify independently, all Australian marriage celebrants are searchable on the Attorney-General’s public register.

What happens if you can’t make it on the day?

This has happened once in 11 years (thanks Covid!), but I have a network of excellent local celebrant pals I can call on in that eventuality.

ready to lock it in?

Click the button, shoot me through an enquiry with your date, your venue (or the region you’re eyeing off), and roughly what you’re planning. I’ll get back to you ASAP with availability and a straight-shooting quote. No sales pitch, no follow-up spam, no meetings required unless you want one.
